The Bigfork Buscaderos are members of the Bigfork Gun Club that compete to see who is the best cowboy action shooter. In the cooler seasons, they frequent the Pocketstone Cafe one Saturday a month and delight the other diners with their garb and weaponry.
Usually the Buscaderos are a friendly bunch. They drop in for a few drinks (coffee, of course) and breakfast. And they bring their weapons, most often guns of the old west. They're not loaded, but they are real.
Our menu suggests that cinnamon rolls should not be shared, lest they provoke a fight. We don't think this group had any intention of sharing this cinnamon roll. It's not that they're hard to come by, but when they're fresh out of the oven—Well, some things are worth fighting for.
You can tell by the looks of these guys that they're perfect gentlement. On the left you have Doc Holliday and in the middle is Morgan Earp. The other fellow is known as "The Duck" and, insofar as we are aware, he was not a participant in the goings on at the OK Corral.
This is Red Owl Jack. During the week, he's better known around Bigfork as Jack Meyer. We don't actually know how well he can shoot, but he's got the look that kind of makes us afraid to ask.
Jack cuts a pretty striking figure as he walks out the double door of the Pocketstone. Kind of like Billy Crystal in City Slickers, you want to ask, "Killed anyone today, Jack?"
A guest once asked the Buscaderos if she could see their guns and this scene resulted. But to us, it just suggested that there's a lot on the line when it comes to satisfying these customers.
Charley Martin, known to his friends as "The Duck," sports a gentle demeanor. But one has to believe, as the driver of a school bus, Charlie is pretty good at keeping the quacking in check.
Some days you just need a cup of coffee. For Long Shot Ed Janikovosky, this was one of those days.
Billy Two Hares (Bill Joseph) probably wasn't too happy about losing the argument over the cinnamon roll.
But losing it to Miss Tis (his wife, Marshelle Joseph) probably softened the dissapointment.
Charley Martin, again portraying The Duck in his classic stance.
Doc Holliday is one of Harlen Johnson's favorite characters. Both doctors, Doc Holliday was a dentist; Doc Johnson is a chiropractor.
Although just friends, when Doc struck up a conversation with Alisha May, one had to wonder if, in the old West, the tough guys got all the pretty girls.
With certain similarities to the character, Rooster Cogburn, Sage Creek Gus (Gary Riecke) stares down a bowl of "True" grits.
Of course, Gus is more at home with the kind of food he can eat with his knife.
Marshal Marv (Marv Hearon) and Three Fingered Fred (Rich Linder) seem poised to fight crime.
HB. You can tell he's a good guy because he wears a black hat.
